Medication Administration
Unless you are leaving the pill in the pets food, it is your responsibility to ensure that the pet ingests his or her medication. Dogs and cats are tricky- make sure he or she doesn’t spit it out. *Also, be aware of other pets in the home- we can never allow the wrong pet to ingest medicine- this could be life or death.
RE-READ MEDICATION INSTRUCTIONS THREE TIMES. IF YOU AREN’T SURE HOW TO MEASURE A DOSE, CONTACT YOUR MANAGER!
First Aid and CPR Utilize your knowledge as learned in the Red Cross presentation and use first aid when appropriate. If there is a life threatening emergency, act right away. Otherwise, contact the manager for advice.
Pet Emergency Protocol Following the Red Cross instructions to respond to an emergency is the first step. Next, call the client and the veterinarian, and your manager. If appropriate, bring the pet to his or her vet. If his or her veterinarian is not available, a 24 Hour Emergency Veterinarian Phone number and address is: VMCLI: 75 Sunrise Highway in West Islip 631-587-0800. If you are not willing to transport a pet to a veterinarian, please TELL YOUR MANAGER NOW!
