Feeding Dogs and Cats Sometimes, you will feed pets. You can leave a pets food down for them to finish later in most cases, unless otherwise instructed. If there are more than two dogs in the home, the client may not want the meals left out. If a dog finishes his or her food while you’re there, you must wash the bowl. If you use a fork or other utensil to feed the dog, you must wash the utensils you used. Wash plastic containers that you opened. When cleaning the pets bowl, use the client's designated pet sponge. If there is no designated pet sponge, use the regular sponge.
If SP is caring for a pet while the client is on vacation, take notice if the dog/cat is eating. If he or she is not eating or pooping at least once per day, let the manager know. Communication is key!
For a pet that eats dry and wet food in the same bowl, usually it should be mixed well together, unless otherwise instructed. All wet food should be emptied out of the can and mashed with a spoon and should NOT look like it has simply been dumped into the plate.
Water Water should be refreshed at every visit, for every pet, unless otherwise instructed. Sometimes, especially if puppies are being crated, their water should be limited so to avoid an accident. See each pets routine instructions.
Treats Only give treats if instructed by owner. Only give treats provided by the client.
